There are two ways to apply for a Garfield Alumni Foundation Scholarship - right now online before the 2nd Friday in April or turned in to the GHS Career Center no later than the 2nd Friday in April.
General Applicant Criteria:
- You must be a GHS Graduating Senior
- Grade Point Average of 3.0 minimum
- Completed Application (either online or turn in at GHS Career Center)
- Signed Media Release Form (turn in to the GHS Career Center if applying online)
- 2 Letters of Recommendation from teachers, guidance counselor, community members, employer, or clergyperson
- Short Written Essay answering "Tell us about a personal quality, accomplishments, or volunteer experience that is important to you and describe how this relates to your future endeavor"
Deadline: 2nd Friday of April
Apply OnlineWe suggest that before applying online that you print a hard copy of the application and prepare your answers and then fill them in online. You must answer all questions and include all requested documents uploaded and the completed Media Release form must be turned in to GHS Career Center. Important - If you apply on-line you must turn in a hard copy of the Media Release Form with signatures to the GHS Career Center or your online application may be rejected. Do I need to attend a 4-year university?
No, you can also attend a community college, trade/vocational school or private school located in the United States.
Do I need to be a U.S. Citizen?
No.
Will you ask my parents for IRS forms?
No, IRS forms are not required as the Garfield Alumni Foundation is a non-profit foundation and not a state or federally funded foundation.
Do I need to be enrolled full time?
No, however, you must be enrolled in the equivalent of 6 to 8 units.
Do I have to pay back the award?
No, however, there is an exception. If you do not attend one of the qualifying educational institutions, you must refund all of the money awarded to you back to the Garfield Alumni Foundation by December 31st of the same year awarded.
Where do I submit my application?
You may apply on line now (Apply Online) or at the Garfield High School Career Center.
What is the deadline to apply?
Each year the submission deadline is on or before the 2nd Friday of April.
How will I know if I have been awarded?
You will be notified via mail no later than April 30th of the year you apply.
How do I pick up my award?
You can pick up your award at the Garfield High School Bookstore with the proper identification.

Qualifying Criteria
The Criteria is two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, community leader and clergy person. Grade Point Average 3.0 and written essay.
