First Six Months of 2008 Report
Montebello,
CA, May 2008 - The Garfield Alumni Foundation,
Inc. has been very active with many organizations
within James A. Garfield High School, in addition
the Foundation's annual issuing of scholarships to
members of the school's graduating class. On Thursday,
June 19th 2008, the Garfield Alumni Foundation will
be participating in Garfield's annual Scholarship
Ceremony. The event will take place on the "Grand
Mall" of the campus, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The
Alumni Foundation has selected eight scholarship recipients,
in additional to eight more to be awarded from Dollars
for Scholars, for a total of $8000 in scholarships
this year. Applications for the annual Garfield Alumni
Foundation were available at the Garfield High School
College Center. Students filled out applications,
in addition to submitting personal statements and
copies of their transcripts. A full list of this year's

In November 2007, the Garfield Football Team won the
3A L.A. City Championship. The Alumni Foundation donated
$283 in trophies for a victory ceremony at Garfield
High School. A fund raiser was held on March 7, 2008
to raise money for the team's championship rings.
The Alumni Foundation donated $200, in addition to
purchasing $300 in tickets, totaling $783 donated
to the Garfield Bulldogs football program.
In
March 2008, the Garfield Alumni Foundation was a sponsor
for one of the $100 tees in the annual John Benson
Scholarship Fund Raiser. Benson has been a longtime
supporter of the Alumni Foundation, and both organizations
have a common goal in providing scholarships for the
students of Garfield High School. The Alumni Foundation
also donated a total of $500 to Adelante Mujer Latina
Conference. This event featured many empowerment workshops,
in which female students from Garfield were introduced
to several corporate and government officials, focusing
on job opportunities.
Finally, the Garfield Alumni Foundation is in early
preparations for the 46th Annual 5th Quarter Dance
and Fundraiser, taking place on Friday, November 14th,
2008 at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello. This annual
scholarship fund raiser is a longstanding event, with
attendance upwards of 600-700 people. The Foundation
is currently seeking vendor interested in renting
booths at this year's event. All interested vendors
